Description:
On November 9th, 2011 Chris was promoted from a Life Scout with Troop 399 in Raleigh North Carolina to Eagle Scout. The information about his project is below.
His project is a 16'x12' Pergola designed to shade two picnic tables at Conn Elementary, 1220 Brookside Drive Raleigh, NC. He will also be doing minor landscaping improvements to the outdoor educational area.
Project Status:
11/9/11 - Eagle Badge awarded!
4/21/11 - Thursday spread wood chips, project complete.
4/20/11 - Wednesday screwed down the remaining shade boards and touched up the stain with a second coat where needed.
4/17/11 - Sunday, picked up several scouts and finished cutting staining and mounting remaining shade boards. Attempted to setup supplier for wood chips.
4/10/11 - Sunday, meet at chapel at 11:45 for 12:00pm departure to Conn. Placed two girders made from double 2"x10"x16' on top of 6"x6" legs. Installed two 2"x10"x12' shade boards.
4/9/11 - Saturday, meet at chapel at 8:45 for 9:00am departure to Conn and began construction. Dug holes, placed & leveled legs, anchored them all down then cemented them in place.
4/8/11 - Friday, meet at chapel at 1:15 for 1:30 departure to ProBuild Building Supply and selected all the lumber for the project.
4/2/11 - Met with Mr. Ralph Rohn, Triangle Classic Homes, to learn about building techniques, materials, and finish some last minute planning.
4/1/11 - Received initial quote from ProBuild Building Supply. Thanks to Mr. Rohn for this contact. ProBuild was very generous with their quote.
4/1/11 - Contacted 811, services behind school will all be marked on/before 4/6 when digging can begin.
3/2/11 - Maintenance for Wake County Public school finally answered questions concerning locating services.
December 2010 - February 2011 - Waiting for winter to be over so I can start my project.
11/8/10 - Wake County Public School finally returned approval for my project.
7/17/10 - Held a garage sale raising roughly $350. We'd like to thank Eric CLaypoole for helping out (5 service hours). We also appreciate the generous contributions from the Rohns, Claypooles and several other annonymous families for donations that were sold at the garage sale, it really did make it a huge success, thank you all.
7/7/10 - Met with District Eagle Board for project approval. After several minor modifications my project was approved.
6/28/10 - Met with Laura Swain the Advancement/Eagle Coordinator to get her feedback and approval.
6/25/10 - Submitted paperwork to Wake County Public School for approval.
6/7/10 - Sat down with both Scout Masters, Frank Kostello and Jeff Hawkins and got their approval for his project.
5/14/10 - Met with the Principal of Conn Elementary, Diann Kearney, and discussed possible ideas for a project. Diann would like a Pergola to provide shade over several picnic tables so teachers can hold lessons outside.
5/3/10 - Court of Honor, awarded rank of Life.
4/27/10 - Completed Board of Review for rank of Life, officially earning the rank.
Fund Raising Plan:
Over the past several years Chris has raised nearly $400 towards his eagle project using the annual troop wreath & butter braid sales.
Chris is the CEO of FFX Corp., and the board of FFX has agreed to match all personal donations up to a total corporate contribution of an additional $200.
